    Design Requirements

In the past, some designers have made designs more in line with an unconventional materials challenge, and we appreciate designers who think outside of the box and draw inspiration from everyday objects. However, we encourage designers to truly capture the essence of sustainability. When you are gathering materials for your design, consider these questions:

  • How was this material manufactured? What kind of waste is associated with its production?
  • What other purposes does this material have? What is the net benefit gained from incorporating this material? What are the costs?
  • After the show is over, what will happen to your design? Is it able to be reused, recycled, or composted?

  • We will continue to be strict in enforcing the types of materials used in the designs, because the first goal of the Trashion Show is to promote sustainable practices on campus that will affect our community positively.
